"We see the Honmon Daimoku in front of us but we never ever knew that
was the Daishonin's message for us and that was the 'musical note' to
chant the Honmon Daimoku.
SGI have been teaching their members to chant the daimoku like a
galloping horse and to treat the gohonzon like a wishing well, all in
contrary to the Daishonin's teaching. The Daishonin's teaching was
simple, to allow us all to achieve enlightenment in this difficult saha
world - just like a lotus flower, to bloom amongst a muddied pond. The
dirtier the pond, the more beautiful our life is.

How do we do that? We need to look at our own life. The real title of
Kanjin Honzon Sho, I am sure you know is "Nyorai Metsugo Go Gohyakusai
Hajimuru Kanjin Honzon Sho" or " The treatise on the object of reverence
to observe the mind commencing (to be propagated) during the fifth five
hundred years after the passing of the Thus Come One". What does that
mean, the Dai-Honzon is simply an object for us to continually observe
our mind. It is a reflection of Chapter 11 of the Lotus sutra where the
Saha world was purified 3 times before the ceremony in the air. The
Daishonin had crystallised that image as the Dai-Honzon, as an object
for us all to constantly remind ourselves what 10 world conditions we
are in. It is not to say we don't have the 6 lower worlds, but to
elevate those 6 lower worlds, so we can have bodhisattvahood of hell or
buddhahood of anger for example. Like the ceremony in the air, it is to
remind ourselves, when we are angry or in suffering, to reflect on that,
and to lift ourselves, off that 6 lower paths. That's why it is
abbreviated to Kanjin Honzon Sho, correctly or incorrectly. It is an
object for us to look at our own minds.
Nichiryo also taught us that there is no miracle with this practice. He
doesn't want us to use the Dai-Honzon as a wishing well. We are aligning
our life conditions with that of the Dai-Honzon, by using the Honmon
Daimoku - we then reach the same life condition wavelength or waveform
of the Dai-Honzon (which is the enlightened life of Nichiren Daishonin).
With that, we get the wisdom to do the correct things and change our
destiny in life. Somehow, I find that amazing things happen too.
So, these days, I rarely pray for anything for myself just for happiness
of others.
We are taught in Honmon Shoshu that this practice is a democratic
practice and we don't tie people down. Anybody can come and go and
there's no subscription or donations to pay. This practice is practice
for happiness and enlightenment, which is the ultimate aim of the
Daishonin. It is not practice for wealth or material things.
